Emma Laura Snowsill OAM (born 15 June 1981) is an Australian professional triathlete. A triathlete is an athlete who competes in a triathlon. A triathlon is a race with three parts: swimming, cycling, and running. Emma has won many gold medals in big competitions. These include the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games. She also won the gold medal in triathlon at the 2008 Olympic Games. Emma Snowsill is married to Jan Frodeno, who also won an Olympic gold medal in men's triathlon in 2008.

Emma Snowsill's Amazing Triathlon Journey
Emma Snowsill started her professional career with great success. She won the 2000 International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championship. This was in the 16–20 years age group. She also won a gold medal at the 2001 Sydney Youth Olympic Festival Triathlon. Emma was only 19 years old at the time. She received a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). In 2000, she was named the 16–19 years female Triathlete of the Year.
Becoming a World Champion
In 2003, Emma Snowsill became an ITU World Champion for the first time. This big win happened in Queenstown, New Zealand. The next year, in 2004, she won the ITU World Cup Championship. She finished that season ranked number one in the world. Even with these amazing results, she was not chosen for the Australian team for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
In 2005, Emma won her second world title. This race was in Gamagori, Japan. The weather was very hot, about 35 degrees Celsius, and very humid.
More Gold Medals and Records
During 2005 and 2006, Emma won the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis. She also won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She then won another gold medal at the 2006 World ITU Championships in Lausanne. In that race, she finished 45 seconds ahead of Portuguese triathlete Vanessa Fernandes. This made Emma the first female triathlete to win three world titles.
In 2007, Vanessa Fernandes won her first world title in Hamburg. She beat Emma Snowsill by more than a minute. In 2008, Emma won the Mooloolaba World Cup season opener. She beat her Olympic rival, Vanessa Fernandes, in that race.
Olympic Gold Medal Victory
Emma Snowsill decided to skip the ITU World Championships in 2008. She wanted to save all her energy for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. During the triathlon event at the Olympics, she stayed with the top athletes. She was with the leaders during the swimming and cycling parts of the race. Then, she pulled ahead during the running part. Emma Snowsill won the gold medal with a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes, and 27 seconds. She finished 1 minute and 7 seconds ahead of Vanessa Fernandes. Another Australian athlete, Emma Moffatt, won the bronze medal in the same race.
Later Career and Achievements
Emma Snowsill was not selected for the Australian team for the London 2012 Olympic Triathlon. She appealed this decision, but her appeal was not successful. Emma decided not to take her case further. She said she had to respect the decision. She wished the three selected women good luck for their race in London.
Throughout her career, Emma won many major triathlons. These include the "Grand Slam" of Chicago, City of Los Angeles, London, and New York Triathlons. She also won many ITU World Cup events.
Awards and Recognition
Emma Snowsill has received several important awards for her achievements:
- In 2009, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. This is a special honor in Australia.
- In 2015, she was added to the International Triathlon Union Hall of Fame. This means she is recognized as one of the best triathletes ever.
- In 2017, she was inducted into the Triathlon Australia Hall of Fame.
- In 2019, she was added to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
