Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Emmanuel Eboué was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He began his football training at the ASEC Mimosas youth academy. This is where young players learn and develop their skills. In 2002, Eboué moved to KSK Beveren, a Belgian club linked to ASEC. He played there for three seasons. His strong performances in Belgium caught the attention of scouts from Arsenal.
Playing for Arsenal
Joining the Gunners
Eboué joined Arsenal in 2005. His first game was in the FA Cup against Stoke City. At first, he was not a regular player for the first team. He mostly played for Arsenal's reserve team. However, he did play in three games during Arsenal's successful 2004–05 FA Cup winning season.
Breaking into the Team
In the 2005–06 season, Eboué started to play more for Arsenal. He scored his first goal for the club in a League Cup match against Sunderland in October 2005. When another player, Lauren, got injured, Eboué stepped in as the right back. He played very well and kept his spot for the rest of the season.
Eboué played in big UEFA Champions League games against teams like Real Madrid and Juventus. His manager, Arsène Wenger, was very impressed with how well he played. Eboué even started in the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final.
Later Seasons at Arsenal
Eboué continued to play an important role for Arsenal. He was even named Arsenal Player of the Month in September 2006. He signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal in May 2007.
The manager decided to move Eboué to play more on the right wing. In September 2008, he scored his first Premier League goal against Bolton Wanderers. During the 2008–09 season, he scored two goals in a 4–0 win against Blackburn Rovers. He also scored in the FA Cup against Burnley.
In the 2009–10 season, Eboué scored against Wigan Athletic. He also scored a goal in the Champions League against Porto, helping Arsenal win 5–0. He signed another long-term contract with Arsenal in late 2010.
In April 2011, Eboué scored a powerful goal against Blackpool. By the end of the 2010–11 season, he had played 27 games and scored one goal.
Moving to Galatasaray
First Seasons in Turkey
In August 2011, Eboué moved to the Turkish club Galatasaray. He signed a four-year contract. His manager at Arsenal, Arsène Wenger, told him he would have more chances to play if he joined the Turkish team. Eboué made his debut for Galatasaray in September 2011.
In December 2011, Eboué scored his first goal for Galatasaray, which helped them win 1–0 against Gençlerbirliği. He played 31 games that season and helped Galatasaray win their first league title of his career.
In his second season, Eboué helped Galatasaray win the 2012 Turkish Super Cup in August 2012. He played the whole game in a 3–2 victory against their rivals Fenerbahçe. In January 2013, his national teammate Didier Drogba also joined Galatasaray. In April 2013, Eboué scored a long-range goal in a Champions League game against Real Madrid. Galatasaray won that game 3–2. Eboué also helped Galatasaray win the league title again in May 2013.
Final Season and Departure
For the 2014–15 season, Eboué was not included in the main team. He played with the U21 team instead. His contract was not renewed, and he left the club at the end of the season.
Short Time at Sunderland
In March 2016, Eboué signed a short contract with Sunderland. However, he faced a ban from playing football for one year due to a disagreement with a former agent. He was released by Sunderland in April 2016 and did not play any games for the club.
Later Career and Coaching
In July 2017, Eboué trained with a Hungarian team, Ferencváros, but they could not agree on a contract. Later, in October 2017, he tried to join a team in Northern Cyprus, but this move also did not happen due to health issues found in a medical test. In December 2017, his former club Galatasaray offered him a job coaching their under-14 team.
International Career
Eboué started playing for the Ivory Coast in 2004. He was a regular player in their defense, often playing as a right-back. On 18 November 2009, Eboué scored his first goal for Ivory Coast in a 2–2 draw against Germany. He was part of the Ivory Coast squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
