Ender Inciarte's Baseball Journey
Starting with the Arizona Diamondbacks
Ender Inciarte began his professional baseball career when he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 25, 2008. He started playing in the minor leagues, which are lower levels of professional baseball. In 2012, he played really well, hitting for a .307 average and stealing 28 bases.
After the 2012 season, Ender was picked by the Philadelphia Phillies in a special draft called the Rule 5 draft. This draft allows teams to pick players who are not protected by their current team. He even made the Phillies' main roster for a short time. However, he was soon offered back to the Diamondbacks, as the rules of the Rule 5 draft require.
Ender then played for the Mobile BayBears, a minor league team for the Diamondbacks. He continued to play well, hitting .281 and stealing 43 bases. He was even chosen for the Southern League All-Star Game. Because of his strong performance, the Diamondbacks added him to their main roster.
In 2014, Ender started the season in Triple-A, the highest level of minor league baseball. He was hitting .312 when he was called up to the major leagues. He made his MLB debut on May 2, 2014, and got a hit in his very first game! He hit his first major league home run on July 5. In 2015, he had a great year, hitting .303 and stealing 21 bases. He also won the Fielding Bible Award for being an excellent fielder who could play different positions.
Playing for the Atlanta Braves
On December 9, 2015, Ender Inciarte was traded to the Atlanta Braves. He became their starting center fielder and leadoff hitter (the first batter in the lineup). He had a tough start to the 2016 season because of an injury, but his hitting improved a lot after the All-Star break. He finished the year with a .291 batting average.
Ender was known for his amazing defense. Even though other players had good defensive stats, Ender won the 2016 National League Gold Glove Award for center fielders. This award recognizes the best defensive players. He won it because of his strong arm and accurate throws. In December 2016, the Braves signed Ender to a five-year contract, showing how much they valued him.
In 2017, Ender made history at the Braves' new stadium, SunTrust Park. He made the first defensive out, got the first hit, and hit the first home run there! He also had two games where he got five hits, which is very rare. He was the only Braves player chosen for the 2017 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. Ender continued to shine defensively, winning his second Gold Glove Award at the end of the year.
In 2018, Ender won his third straight Gold Glove Award, showing he was one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball. He also hit ten home runs and stole 28 bases that year.
Injuries affected Ender's playing time in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, he continued to deal with injuries. On July 24, 2021, the Braves decided to release him.
Later Career Teams
After leaving the Braves, Ender signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds in August 2021. He played for their Triple-A team before being released later that month.
In December 2021, he signed with the New York Yankees. He played for their Triple-A team, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, hitting four home runs. He was released by the Yankees in June 2022.
Finally, in June 2022, Ender signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. He was called up to the major league team briefly but was later released in July 2022.
