About Enrique Iglesias
Enrique was born in Asturias, Spain, in 1930. His parents were Manuel Iglesias and Isabel García. In 1934, when Enrique was young, his family moved to Uruguay. He became a citizen of Uruguay and now has dual citizenship, meaning he is a citizen of both Uruguay and Spain.
When he went to university, Enrique became very interested in government and economics. In 1953, he finished his studies at Uruguay's Universidad de la República. He earned a degree in economics and business administration. After graduating, he worked in private banking. This led him to become the president of Uruguay's Central Bank from 1967 to 1969.
Enrique Iglesias held many important jobs. He was even the Minister of Foreign Relations for Uruguay. In 1988, he was chosen to be the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
While he was president, the IDB managed to get a lot more money to help countries. This happened during special talks in 1989 and 1994. These talks added billions of dollars to the Bank's funds. This money helped the IDB support many important projects.
