Erasmus University Rotterdam (often called EUR) is a big public university in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It's named after Desiderius Erasmus, a famous thinker and writer from the 15th century.
The university has a top medical center called Erasmus MC. Its schools for economics and business, like the Erasmus School of Economics and Rotterdam School of Management, are very well known in Europe.

Discovering Erasmus University's Past
Erasmus University Rotterdam started on November 8, 1913. It was first called the Netherlands School of Commerce. Business people in Rotterdam helped create it.
In 1937, it became a university. It taught about business and economics. Its name changed to the Netherlands School of Economics. Later, in the 1960s, new study areas like Law and Social Sciences were added. Philosophy, History, Arts, and Business Administration came later.
A group worked hard to start a medical school in Rotterdam. In 1966, the government opened the Medical Faculty Rotterdam. It was next to a hospital. This medical faculty, along with other hospitals, became the University Hospital Rotterdam. Today, it is known as Erasmus MC.
In 1973, the Medical Faculty Rotterdam and the Netherlands School of Economics joined together. That's when it got its current name: Erasmus University Rotterdam. It was the first university in the Netherlands named after a person!
Focus on Health Studies
This part of the university includes Erasmus MC. It also has the Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management (ESHPM). These groups study health and how to manage health care.
Erasmus MC is a big medical center. It helps people and teaches new doctors. Researchers here study how genes affect diseases. They also work with the Netherlands Forensic Institute. They do important studies on health for older people and children.
The Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management connects medicine with social studies. It looks at how health care works in society.

Bachelor's Degrees
