Ercilla is a town and commune in Chile. It is located in the Malleco Province, which is part of the Araucanía Region. The town was named to honor Alonso de Ercilla, a famous writer. He wrote an important poem called La Araucana.

According to a census taken in 2002, Ercilla had 9,041 people living there. Out of these, 4,633 were men and 4,408 were women.
Most people in Ercilla live in rural areas. About 3,238 people (35.8%) lived in urban areas, which are like towns or cities. The rest, 5,803 people (64.2%), lived in rural areas, which are more like the countryside.
