Collipulli is a city and a commune located in southern Chile. It is part of the Malleco Province in the Araucanía Region. The name Collipulli means "coloured lands" in the Mapuche language.

In 2012, Collipulli had about 23,321 people living there. The city covers an area of about 1,296 square kilometers (500 square miles). The current mayor is Manuel Macaya Ramírez.

History of Collipulli

Founding the City

Collipulli was first established as a military fort on November 22, 1867. This happened during a time called the Occupation of Araucanía. Soldiers built the fort to protect the area.

The fort had strong defenses like ditches and wooden fences. Bridges were built over the Malleco River to help support the fort. Other forts were also built nearby. Soon, people began to settle in the area and started farms.

A very important structure in Collipulli is the Malleco Viaduct. It is a huge bridge that was opened on October 26, 1890. President Manuel Balmaceda was there for the opening.

The viaduct made it much easier and faster to transport goods and people. It helped trade and business grow in the region. The bridge is now a National Monument in Chile. It was slightly damaged during a large earthquake on February 27, 2010.

Economy and Jobs

Today, Collipulli's economy mainly depends on farming, forestry, and various services. Most of the land is good for growing crops. However, more and more land is now being used for growing trees for wood.
