Éric Lanlard's Journey to Becoming a Chef
Éric Lanlard was born in Plomelin, a town in Brittany, France. He says his dream of becoming a pastry chef started when he was just five years old. He would often look through the windows of a pastry shop called "Le Grand" in his hometown. When he was 18, he began working there and trained to become a pastry chef.
He also found inspiration from a famous French chef named Antonin Careme. Éric later moved to Luxembourg to learn how to make chocolates at a place called Arens-Scheer.
After his training, Éric joined the French Navy for his national service. He served on a ship called the Jeanne d'Arc. While he was on board, his cooking really impressed the French President François Mitterrand. The President was so pleased that he gave Éric a special gift: a pair of gold cufflinks.
Moving to the UK and Starting His Business
After leaving the Navy, Éric was asked to work for the famous Roux brothers, Albert and Michel. He moved to the UK in 1989. Within two years, he became their head pastry chef. In 1995, he decided to start his own business.
His first business was called Laboratoire 2000. In 2005, he changed it to his well-known shop, Cake Boy. This shop is also a place where people can learn how to cook and bake. A famous UK TV star, Amanda Holden, helped open the Cake Boy shop.
Cakes for Famous People
Éric Lanlard has made many amazing cakes for famous people. Some of his most well-known creations include:
