Professional Football Career
Starting with the Dallas Cowboys
After college, Eric Rogers signed with the Dallas Cowboys on April 28, 2013. He joined them as an undrafted free agent, meaning he wasn't chosen in the main draft but was signed afterward.
Playing in the Arena Football League and CFL
In 2014, Eric joined the Portland Thunder in the Arena Football League (AFL). This league plays a faster, indoor version of football. However, he soon signed with the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
When he didn't make the Redblacks' main team, he went back to play for the Portland Thunder. In just 9 games, Eric had 73 catches for 903 yards and scored 27 touchdowns! After this impressive performance, he signed with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL.
First Time with the Calgary Stampeders
Eric Rogers joined the Calgary Stampeders on July 7, 2014. He quickly made a big difference, especially in a playoff game on November 23, 2014. In that game, he caught 3 passes for 60 yards and scored two touchdowns!
In 2015, Eric had an incredible season. He led the entire CFL with 1,448 receiving yards. He was also fourth in the league with 87 catches and tied for the lead with 10 receiving touchdowns.
Time with the San Francisco 49ers
On January 20, 2016, Eric Rogers signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. He had visited 16 different NFL teams before choosing the 49ers. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury during training camp and missed the entire 2016 season. He was later waived by the 49ers in May 2017.
Second Time with the Calgary Stampeders
On June 6, 2018, Eric decided to return to his former team, the Calgary Stampeders. He played in nine games in 2018, catching 36 passes for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns. He missed part of the season due to a knee injury. In a big playoff game, Eric caught three touchdown passes, helping the Stampeders reach their third straight Grey Cup championship game.
Just before free agency began on February 12, 2019, Eric and the Stampeders agreed to a new two-year contract. In 2019, he played in 17 regular season games. He had 85 catches for 1,080 yards and ten touchdowns, earning him a spot as a CFL West All-Star. He did not play in 2020 because the CFL season was canceled.
