Erin Entrada Kelly is a well-known American author who writes books for children. She won the important John Newbery Medal in 2018. This award was for her third book, Hello, Universe.
Kelly also received a Newbery Honor in 2021 for her book We Dream of Space. She won another award, the Award for Children's Literature, from the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association. This was for her second novel, The Land of Forgotten Girls.
Her books are very popular. Many of them have been on the New York Times bestseller list. They have also been translated into many different languages around the world.

About Erin Entrada Kelly
Early Life and School
Erin Entrada Kelly was born in the United States. She grew up in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Today, she lives in Delaware, close to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother moved to the U.S. from the Philippines.
Kelly went to McNeese State University and earned a bachelor's degree. She also has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Rosemont College. At Rosemont College, she teaches college students how to write children's books. She also teaches at Hamline University in a special program for writers.
Her Writing Career
Erin Kelly started her career as a journalist. She wrote for a newspaper called the American Press. Later, she worked as an editor for Thrive Magazine. An editor helps prepare stories for publishing.
Her first book, Blackbird Fly, came out in 2015. It won an honor award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. It also received an award from APALA. In 2016, she won the Children's Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature for The Land of Forgotten Girls.
Kelly has also written many short stories for adults. For a while, she worked as a book publicist. This job involves helping new books become famous.
Her third novel, Hello, Universe, was published in 2017. This story is about a middle school boy who goes missing. A group of his friends try to find and rescue him. This book won the 2018 Newbery Medal. It also received many other honors.
In 2024, Kelly's book The First State of Being was a finalist for a big award. It was chosen for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature.
Erin Kelly also writes and draws pictures for a book series. This series is called Maybe, Maybe Marisol Rainey.
Kelly has said that the famous author Judy Blume is her biggest inspiration. Judy Blume writes many popular books for kids and teens.
