Early Life and Music Dreams
Growing Up in Rome (1963–1981)
Eros Ramazzotti grew up in Cinecittà Est, a suburb of Rome. His father, Rodolfo, worked in construction, and his mother, Raffaela, was a housewife. He was named after Eros, the Greek god of love.
Eros started playing the guitar when he was just seven years old. As a teenager, he wrote songs with his father, who loved music and played the piano. He wanted to study music formally but did not pass the entrance exam for a music school. He then tried studying bookkeeping but left that too. He often appeared as an extra in movies, always dreaming of becoming a pop star.
In 1981, Eros took part in a music contest called Voci Nuove di Castrocaro. He sang his own song, "Rock 80." Even though he didn't win, he reached the final. Two record label representatives liked his performance and offered him his first contract with DDD. He then moved to Milan with his brother and mother to start his music career.
