About Eros Ramazzotti

Early Life and First Steps in Music (1963–1981)

Eros Ramazzotti was born in Cinecittà Est, a part of Rome, Italy. His dad, Rodolfo, worked in construction. His mom, Raffaela, was a housewife. Eros started playing the guitar when he was just seven years old. As a teenager, he wrote songs with his dad, who loved music.

He wanted to go to a music school, but he didn't pass the entrance exam. So, he started studying bookkeeping, but he quit that too. He sometimes worked as an extra in movies. All the while, he dreamed of becoming a pop star.

In 1981, Eros entered a music contest called Voci Nuove di Castrocaro. He sang his own song, "Rock 80." Even though he didn't win, he reached the final. Two record label representatives liked him. They gave Eros his first music contract! He then moved to Milan with his brother and mom.

Personal Life

When I was a child, there were no books at home. No one taught me how to have a good conversation. I didn't get any guidance to find myself. The only information from my father was inappropriate photos of women. The first support I got from my father was a guitar, after he saw how much I loved music. Now, I try to learn by buying good books. But I almost never read them because I get lazy after watching a football game on TV.

Eros also remembers being very shy when he was young, before he became famous:

When I went to Milan to improve my music skills, I was so shy. I was terrified of going to restaurants by myself. So, I would go without eating the whole time I was in Milan.

Even though he was born in Rome, Eros is a big fan of the Juventus FC football team. In 2012, he received a special star from a club legend for being such a loyal fan.

His autobiography, a book about his life, was published in 2006.
