Ersin Tatar (born 7 September 1960) is a Turkish Cypriot politician. He has been the fifth President of Northern Cyprus since 2020. Before becoming president, he served as the fourth Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus from 2019 to 2020. He was also the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Leader of the Opposition from 2018 until his election as president.

Early Life and Education
Ersin Tatar was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 7 September 1960. His father, Rüstem Tatar, was also involved in politics. Ersin Tatar went to school in England at Forest School, Walthamstow. Later, he studied economics at Cambridge University's Jesus College, graduating in 1982.
Before Politics
After finishing university, Tatar worked as an accountant in London from 1982 to 1986. He then worked for a company called Polly Peck until 1991.
In 1991, Tatar moved to Ankara, Turkey, where he worked for a defense industry company. From 1992 to 2001, he was a general coordinator for Show TV, a Turkish television channel. In 1996, he started his own television channel, Kanal T, in Nicosia. He was also active in the Turkish Cypriot community in Turkey.
Political Career
Joining the National Unity Party
Ersin Tatar began his political career in 2003 when he joined the National Unity Party (UBP). He was first elected to the Parliament in 2009. He served as the Finance Minister until 2013.
Party Leadership and Prime Minister
In 2018, he became the leader of the National Unity Party. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition during this time. In May 2019, he became the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus.
Views on Cyprus and Turkey
Ersin Tatar supports a two-state solution for the Cyprus dispute. This means he believes there should be two separate states on the island of Cyprus. He has also stated that Turkish Cypriots are always on Turkey's side.
The Varosha Decision
Before the 2020 presidential election, Ersin Tatar announced a plan to reopen the beachfront area of Varosha. This area had been closed since 1974. The decision caused a lot of discussion and was met with mixed reactions both in Northern Cyprus and internationally. His Deputy Prime Minister resigned over the issue.
Becoming President
In the second round of the 2020 Northern Cyprus presidential election, Ersin Tatar won with 51.69% of the votes. He took office as President on 23 October 2020.
Personal Life
Ersin Tatar is married to Sibel Tatar. They have two children together.
