History of Eskridge
Eskridge was first planned out in 1868. The town grew a lot in 1880. This happened when a railroad line was built right through it.
How Eskridge Got Its Name
The city is named after Charles V. Eskridge. He was a journalist and a politician from Emporia, Kansas. The town's founder, Colonel Ephraim Sanford, let Charles Eskridge buy the first piece of land. In return, the town was named after him. Charles Eskridge was also a lieutenant governor in Kansas in 1869.
World War II and Eskridge
During World War II in 1943, many American men went to fight. This caused a shortage of workers in places like Kansas. To help with this, German and Italian prisoners of war were brought to the state. They helped with farm work and other jobs.
Large camps were set up in Kansas for these prisoners. There were also smaller camps. One of these smaller camps was located west of Eskridge, near Lake Wabaunsee.

Eskridge is located in the state of Kansas. The city covers a total area of about 0.52 square miles (1.34 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Education in Eskridge
Students in Eskridge attend schools in the Mission Valley USD 330 public school district. This district was formed when schools from Eskridge, Harveyville, and Dover joined together.
Mission Valley High School is located about 6 miles northeast of Eskridge. The school's mascot is the Mission Valley Vikings. Eskridge High School used to be open, but it closed in 1971. Its mascot was the Eskridge Dragons.
