The Arena BRB Mané Garrincha is a huge football stadium and event space. It is located in Brasília, the capital city of Brazil. This stadium is part of a bigger sports area called the Ayrton Senna Sports Complex. Since 2019, a private company has managed the stadium and its nearby areas.
The stadium first opened in 1974 and could hold 45,200 people. It was completely rebuilt between 2010 and 2013. After the rebuild, its capacity grew to 72,788 people. This made it the second-largest stadium in Brazil, right after the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. It is also one of the biggest stadiums in South America.
The stadium officially reopened on May 18, 2013. This was after its big renovation for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The original design was by architect Ícaro de Castro Mello. The renovation cost about US$900 million. This made it one of the most expensive football stadiums in the world.
The Arena BSB company has owned the stadium since December 2019. The stadium is named after the famous football player Mané Garrincha. He was a Brazilian legend who helped Brazil win the World Cup in 1958 and 1962. The current name, Arena BRB Mané Garrincha, comes from a deal with Banco de Brasília.
