Eusebio's Playing Career
Playing for Clubs
Eusebio was born in La Seca, a town in Province of Valladolid, Spain. He began his professional football journey with Real Valladolid. He quickly became a key player for them. In 1987, he moved to Atlético Madrid for one season.
After that, he joined FC Barcelona in 1988. He became one of the most important players for coach Johan Cruyff. Eusebio played in many big matches, including the winning 1989 Cup Winners' Cup final and the 1992 European Cup final.
He played 36 games in his last two seasons at Barcelona. In 1995, he moved to RC Celta de Vigo, where he played for two more strong seasons. Eusebio retired in 2002 at the age of 38, back with Valladolid. He played a total of 543 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. This makes him one of the players with the most appearances in La Liga history.
Playing for Spain
Eusebio played 15 times for the Spanish national team. His first game was on 24 September 1986, in a friendly match against Greece. He was chosen to be part of the squad for UEFA Euro 1988. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament. Spain was eliminated in the group stage.
Eusebio's Coaching Career
After he stopped playing football, Eusebio opened a football school in Valladolid. This school was for children aged 6 to 12. He also earned his coaching degree. From 2003 to 2008, he worked as an assistant coach at Barcelona under Frank Rijkaard.
In March 2009, Sacristán became the head coach of Celta, another team he used to play for. The team was struggling in the Segunda División, which is Spain's second division. The next season was also tough, but Celta managed to stay in the league. His contract ended in June 2010, and he left the club.
Sacristán returned to Barcelona in 2011. He became the manager of Barcelona B, which is Barcelona's reserve team. He led them to a third-place finish in his third year. However, after a series of poor results, he was replaced in February 2015.
On 9 November 2015, Sacristán was named manager of Real Sociedad, a team in Spain's top league. He was in charge until March 2018, when he was fired.
In June 2018, Sacristán took over as manager of Girona FC. He left the club in May 2019 after the team was relegated from the top league.
