Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Evander Sno was born in Dordrecht, a city in the Netherlands. He started his football journey in the youth system at AFC Ajax, which is a famous Dutch club. When he was eighteen, he moved to another big club, Feyenoord.
He didn't play any first-team games for Feyenoord. Instead, he was loaned out to NAC Breda for the 2005–06 season. This is where he started to make a name for himself in professional football.
Playing for Celtic

In 2006, Sno joined Celtic, a top team in the Scottish Premier League. He was seen as one of the most promising young players in the world at that time. He played his first full game for Celtic in a League Cup match against St Mirren. His manager praised his performance.
He also played in his first "Old Firm" derby, a big game against Rangers, in September 2006. Sno scored his only goal for Celtic in November 2006 against Hibernian. He also played in the Champions League against AC Milan. At the end of the season, he won the Scottish Premier League title with Celtic, and they won it again in the 2007–08 season.
Many news reports at the time said that Sno was named after the famous boxer, Evander Holyfield.
Returning to Ajax
In August 2008, Evander Sno went back to AFC Ajax, signing a three-year contract. He was sent off in his very first game for Ajax against Willem II Tilburg, but his red card was later removed. After just one season, he was moved to play for the reserve team, Jong Ajax.
In August 2009, Sno joined English club Bristol City on loan for the 2009–10 season. He scored his first goal for Bristol City in a 3–2 win against Barnsley. After the loan, he returned to Ajax.
Health Challenges and Recovery
On 13 September 2010, while playing a game for Ajax's reserve team, Evander Sno faced a serious health challenge. He had a cardiac arrest, which means his heart suddenly stopped. Paramedics quickly helped him on the field, and it took about ten minutes to restart his heart. He was then taken to a hospital.
It was expected that he would need a long time to recover. However, he made a remarkable return, playing in a friendly match for the reserves on 11 November 2010. Doctors could not find a clear reason for the cardiac arrest. As a safety measure, he had a special device called an internal cardiac defibrillator placed inside his body. This device can help restart the heart if it stops again.
After his contract with Ajax ended, Sno almost joined an Italian club, Genoa. However, the move was canceled because he did not pass the medical examination.
Later Career and Retirement
In August 2011, Sno signed a one-year contract with RKC Waalwijk, another team in the Dutch top league. He played well there, and other Dutch teams became interested in him.
He then signed a two-year contract with NEC Nijmegen on 6 June 2012. On 29 September 2012, Evander Sno had another cardiac arrest during a game. But because he had the defibrillator fitted earlier, it helped him, and he was able to walk off the pitch. On 3 April 2013, Sno ended his contract with NEC due to a disagreement.
On 28 October 2013, Sno returned to his former club, RKC, signing a deal until the end of the season. After RKC was moved to a lower league, Sno left and joined Belgian team Westerlo on 4 June 2014. He only played two matches there and left the club in December 2014.
On 31 January 2015, Sno signed a contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag until the end of the season. After another time playing for RKC, he joined an amateur club called DHSC in July 2017. He announced that he was retiring from playing football in 2018.
International Appearances
Evander Sno was born in the Netherlands and has family roots in Suriname. He regularly played for the Dutch Under-21 team. In October 2006, he was surprisingly called up to the senior Netherlands national football squad for a friendly game against the England national team, but he did not play in that match.
On 16 July 2008, he was chosen to be part of the Dutch squad for the Olympic Games in Beijing. In the first game against Nigeria, Sno received a red card.
Coaching Career
In January 2019, about six months after he stopped playing, Evander Sno became an assistant coach for FC Lienden. He worked alongside head coaches Hans van de Haar and Nordin Wooter.
