Evita “Evie” Turquoise Robinson (born in 1984) is a writer and a speaker who inspires people. She is also the person who started Nomadness Travel Tribe and Nomadness TV. Evie was born in Albany and grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York. She has also lived in exciting places like Paris, Japan, and Thailand. Many people know her as a leader in the "urban travel movement." This movement helps people of color explore the world.

After finishing her studies at Iona College, where she learned about film and television, Evie went to the New York Film Academy in Paris. There, she studied how to make digital films.

Nomadness Travel Tribe: Exploring the World

Before she created Nomadness Travel Tribe in September 2011, Evie Robinson shared her own travel adventures on Nomadness TV. She traveled alone and showed others what it was like.

What is Nomadness Travel Tribe?

The Nomadness virtual community is an online group of travelers. It was created mainly for African-Americans. Evie noticed that travel and hotel companies often didn't include people of color in their advertising. So, she wanted to build a welcoming travel community. Her goal was to make world travel easier for people of color.

Evie was inspired by a book called Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us. This book helped her decide to call her travel group a "tribe." She wanted to show that people naturally look for a community where they belong.

How the Tribe Grew

In 2015, The New York Times newspaper reported that the Nomadness group had about 10,000 travelers. These members lived in 36 different countries around the world. At that time, about half of the group's members were young adults, often called millennials. Most of the members were African-American women. By early 2017, it was reported that about 80 percent of the group's members were female.

Group Trips and Events

Since it started, Nomadness Travel Tribe has planned at least four trips every year. The group's last big international trip was to Panama in December 2016. After that, Evie announced that Nomadness would focus on "international popup events." These are smaller, special gatherings in different places.

For example, in February 2017, they had an event in Johannesburg, South Africa. In March, they celebrated Holi in India. In June, they even had an adult prom at the Museum of Aviation in Georgia, USA. In 2018, Nomadness started organizing group trips again. Evie created a new way to plan trips based on different feelings and experiences.

Evie's TED Talk

In 2017, Evie Robinson was chosen to be part of the TED Residency program. This program helps people share big ideas. After finishing the program, she gave a special TED Talk. It was the very first TED Talk ever given about the Black Travel Movement.
