Ewan Davies (born June 23, 1887 – died September 2, 1979) was a famous Welsh rugby union player. He played for the Wales national team twice. He also played for club teams like Cardiff RFC and London Welsh RFC. Later, he became a lawyer and a successful businessman. He even owned many movie theaters!

About Ewan Davies's Life

Ewan Davies was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1887. He went to Cardiff High School. Then he studied at Llandovery College and the University College London. He chose to study law. After finishing his studies, he became a lawyer.

Mr. Davies was also a smart businessman. He owned a group of movie theaters. In 1931, he built the Plaza Cinema in Swansea. This cinema was the biggest one in all of Wales!

Ewan Davies also wanted to be a politician. A politician is someone who helps run the country or a city. He tried to become a member of parliament twice. He ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party. However, he did not win either time. He also owned land in Pembrokeshire. On his land, he raised special cows called Hereford cattle.

Ewan Davies's Rugby Career

Ewan Davies loved rugby from a young age. He played rugby when he was in high school. In the 1910-1911 season, he joined a top Welsh team. This team was called Cardiff RFC. He played for Cardiff RFC for three seasons. During that time, he played 37 games. He played as a "wing," which is a position on the team. He scored 27 "tries" for Cardiff. A try is when a player grounds the ball in the opponent's goal area.

Davies was chosen to play for the Wales national rugby union team. This was for the 1912 Five Nations Championship. He played as a wing in the game against England. The game was at Twickenham. Wales lost that match 8-0. He was not picked for the next two games.

However, Ewan Davies was chosen again for the last game. This was the final match of the championship. It was a home game against France. The game was played at Rodney Parade in Newport. At half-time, his team was losing 6-8. But they played very well in the second half! Davies's team won the game 14-8. Ewan Davies scored two of the four tries in that game. This was his last international game for Wales.
