Fairview Township is a community in Erie County, Pennsylvania. It sits right on the southern shore of Lake Erie. It was one of the very first townships created in Erie County, back in 1797.
In 1998, Fairview Township grew bigger. It took in the area that used to be Fairview Borough.
The township is part of the Erie metropolitan area. In 2020, about 11,139 people lived here. This was more than the 10,102 people counted in 2010.

History of Fairview Township
Fairview Township was one of the first sixteen townships in Erie County. It was officially started in 1797. The name "Fairview" comes from a businessman named Colonel Thomas Forster. In 1797, he bought land near Walnut Creek. He looked at the view and said, "This is the fairest view I have seen yet!"
Changes to the Township's Size
In 1832, Fairview Township became a bit smaller. Some of its land was given to a new township called Girard Township.
Transportation and Landmarks
In the early 1800s, stagecoaches traveled through Fairview. Later, in 1844, the Erie Extension Canal opened. This canal helped move goods and people. In 1961, a major highway, Interstate 90, was built through the township.
A special old house, the Sturgeon House, became a museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This means it's an important historical site. In 1998, Fairview Township officially joined with the former Fairview Borough.

Fairview Township is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie. It has several neighbors. To the west is Girard Township. To the south is Franklin Township. McKean Township is to the southeast. To the northeast, you'll find Millcreek Township.
The township includes two main communities: Fairview and Avonia.

Fairview Township covers a total area of about 29.2 square miles (75.5 km2). Most of this area, about 29.0 square miles (75.0 km2), is land. The rest, about 0.19 square miles (0.5 km2), is water. This water area makes up about 0.66 percent of the township's total size.
