The Fall River is a 14.1-mile-long (22.7 km) river that flows through southern Vermont and northern Massachusetts. It eventually joins the Connecticut River just a short distance downstream from Turners Falls, Massachusetts. This river is an important part of the local environment and history.

Where the Fall River Flows

The Fall River begins its journey on the eastern side of East Mountain in Guilford, Vermont. From there, it flows south into Bernardston, Massachusetts.

Its Path Through Massachusetts

As the river travels through Bernardston, it runs alongside two major highways: U.S. Route 5 and Interstate 91. For most of this section, the river flows right between these two roads.

After leaving Bernardston, the Fall River helps form the border between the town of Gill and the city of Greenfield.

Joining the Connecticut River

Finally, the Fall River reaches the Connecticut River. It enters the Connecticut River directly opposite the village of Turners Falls, which is part of the town of Montague. This meeting point is just below the large dam at Turners Falls.
