Falls Reservoir is a man-made lake in North Carolina, located where Montgomery and Stanly counties meet. It's an important part of the Yadkin River Project, which uses the river's water to create electricity.

This reservoir is the last of four lakes built along a 38-mile (about 61-kilometer) section of the Yadkin River. Falls Reservoir is the smallest of these four lakes. It covers about 204 acres (0.83 square kilometers) and has a shoreline that stretches for 6 miles (about 9.7 kilometers). For many years, the company Alcoa managed the reservoir for its power business. However, in February 2017, the hydroelectric operations were sold to Cube Hydro Carolinas.

The Yadkin River Project

The Yadkin River Project is a system of dams and reservoirs built along the Yadkin River in North Carolina. Its main purpose is to generate hydroelectric power, which is electricity made from moving water. Water flows from one reservoir to the next, turning turbines that create power.

Other Lakes in the Project

Falls Reservoir is one of four main lakes that are part of this important project. The other three lakes are:

These lakes work together to manage the river's flow and provide a steady source of clean energy for the region. They also offer places for recreation like fishing and boating.
