Dexter Tiewon Gore Jr. (born September 6, 1993), known as Famous Dex, is an American rapper. His first studio album, Dex Meets Dexter (2018), reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. Two of his songs, "Pick It Up" (with ASAP Rocky) and "Japan", were big hits. "Pick It Up" reached number 54, and "Japan" reached number 28 on the Hot 100 chart.

Early life and inspiration

Dexter Tiewon Gore Jr. was born on September 6, 1993, in Harlem, New York City. He later moved to Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in the Englewood area.

He decided to start making music after his mother passed away in September 2014. To remember her, he got a pink ribbon tattooed on his face in 2016. This ribbon is a symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Music career highlights

Starting out: 2015–2016

In 2015, Famous Dex released his first mixtape, Never Seen It Coming. A mixtape is like an album, but often released independently. Later that year, he released his second mixtape, Dexter's Laboratory.

In early 2016, he released two more mixtapes: Drippy and #OhhMannGoddDamn.

In March 2016, Famous Dex joined Rich the Kid's music label, Rich Forever Music. Soon after, they released a joint mixtape called Rich Forever. They continued to release more collaborative projects, including Rich Forever 3, which featured new rapper Jay Critch. In October 2016, Famous Dex appeared in Soulja Boy's music video for "Draco".

First album success: 2017–2018

In March 2017, Famous Dex announced his first official album, Dex Meets Dexter. The album was released on April 6, 2018.

In October 2017, he released "Pick It Up" with ASAP Rocky. This song became his first to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reaching number 54. The second song from the album, "Japan", came out on March 16, 2018. On March 30, 2018, he released "Light" featuring Drax Project.

Another song, "Nervous", featuring Lil Baby, Jay Critch, and Rich the Kid, was released on September 21, 2018.

Recent music: 2019–present

On May 8, 2019, Famous Dex released the song "Fully Loaded" with Lil Gotit. A music video for it came out later that month. He also appeared on the Rich Forever 4 album, which featured other artists from the Rich Forever Music label.

On November 1, 2019, Famous Dex had an epileptic seizure during a performance. A representative later shared that he was recovering well.

On December 31, 2019, he released an EP (Extended Play) called Dexter 2031 on SoundCloud. An EP is shorter than an album. In 2020, he released new songs like "What I Like" (with Tyga and Rich the Kid) and "Couped Out" (with Fivio Foreign). He also released the song "Hold On" in August 2020. His album Diana was released on October 9, 2020.
