Dexter Tiewon Gore Jr. (born September 6, 1993), known as Famous Dex, is an American rapper. His first studio album, Dex Meets Dexter (released in 2018), reached number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. Two of his songs, "Pick It Up" (featuring ASAP Rocky) and "Japan", were also very popular. "Pick It Up" reached number 54, and "Japan" reached number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Early Life and Music Start
Dexter Tiewon Gore Jr. was born on September 6, 1993. He was born in Harlem, New York City. Later, he moved to Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in the Englewood area of Chicago's South Side.
Dexter decided to start making music in September 2014. This was after his mother passed away. In 2016, he got a pink ribbon tattooed on his face. This was to remember his mother, who had passed away from breast cancer.
Famous Dex's Music Journey
Starting Out: Mixtapes and Record Deals (2015–2016)
In 2015, Famous Dex released his first mixtape. It was called Never Seen It Coming. Later that year, he released his second mixtape. This one was named Dexter's Laboratory.
In early 2016, he released two more mixtapes. These were called Drippy and #OhhMannGoddDamn.
In March 2016, Famous Dex joined Rich the Kid's record label. The label is called Rich Forever Music. Soon after, Famous Dex and Rich the Kid released a joint project. It was titled Rich Forever. They released three more projects together. The third one featured Jay Critch, a new rapper from Rich Forever. In October 2016, Famous Dex appeared in Soulja Boy's music video for "Draco".
First Album Success: Dex Meets Dexter (2017–2018)
In March 2017, Famous Dex announced his first album. It was named Dex Meets Dexter. The album was released on April 6, 2018.
In October 2017, he released "Pick It Up". This song featured ASAP Rocky. It was the first single from his album. The song became very popular. It reached number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This was his first song to appear on that chart.
The album's second single was "Japan". It came out on March 16, 2018. On March 30, 2018, he released another song. It was called "Light" and featured Drax Project. The song "Nervous" was released on September 21, 2018. It featured Lil Baby, Jay Critch, and Rich the Kid.
Recent Music: EPs and Albums (2019–Present)
On May 8, 2019, the song "Fully Loaded" was released. It featured Lil Gotit. A music video for the song came out on May 27, 2019. Famous Dex was also on the Rich Forever Music album Rich Forever 4. This album was released on August 2, 2019. It included new artists from the label.
On November 1, 2019, Famous Dex had a health issue. This happened during a performance in West Hollywood, California. A representative later confirmed he was recovering well.
On December 31, 2019, Famous Dex released an EP. It was called Dexter 2031 and was available on SoundCloud. The song "What I Like" came out on April 3, 2020. It featured Tyga and Rich the Kid. On July 23, he released "Couped Out" with Fivio Foreign. In August 2020, he released the song "Hold On". His album Diana was released on October 9, 2020.
