Fantasia 2000 is an animated movie from 1999. It was made by Walt Disney Feature Animation. This film is a sequel to the classic movie Fantasia from 1940.
Just like the first Fantasia, this movie combines amazing animation with beautiful classical music. Each part of the movie is set to a different piece of music. The only part that appears in both movies is The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
The music for Fantasia 2000 was played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. James Levine was the conductor. Famous people introduce each animated segment. These introductions are live-action scenes. Some of the stars you'll see include Steve Martin, Bette Midler, Penn & Teller, James Earl Jones, Quincy Jones, and Angela Lansbury.
Movie Premiere and Release
Fantasia 2000 first showed at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 17, 1999. This was part of a special concert tour. The tour visited five cities around the world. These cities included London, Paris, Tokyo, and Pasadena, California.
IMAX Release
After the concert tour, the movie had a special release in IMAX theaters. This happened from January 1 to April 30, 2000. Fantasia 2000 was the first full-length animated movie ever shown in the IMAX format. This made the animation look even bigger and more impressive!
General Release
The movie then opened to everyone in the United States on June 16, 2000. Worldwide, Fantasia 2000 earned about $90.8 million.
