A Look at Farciennes' History
In the past, Farciennes was a very busy industrial town. It had many jobs in mining and steel. The last coal mine in Wallonia was here. It was called the Sainte-Catherine shaft. This mine belonged to the Roton company.
When the mines closed, many jobs were lost. The steel industry also faced challenges. This caused a decline in the area. Today, the old Roton mine site has changed. Only the tower and the old changing rooms remain. This area is now used for small and medium-sized businesses. This helps create new jobs for the town.
