Fares Fares (born on April 29, 1973) is a talented actor, producer, and director from Sweden. He is famous for his work in many movies and TV shows. You might know him from films like The Nile Hilton Incident (2017) and Boy from Heaven (2022), which he made with director Tarik Saleh.
Fares has won several awards for his acting. These include a Guldbagge Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and two Robert Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. He has also appeared in popular productions such as Zero Dark Thirty, Safe House, Westworld, and Chernobyl.

Early Life and Moving to Sweden
Fares Fares was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on April 29, 1973. His family has Assyrian roots. He has a younger brother, Josef Fares, who is also a director, and four sisters.
When Fares was 14 years old, in 1987, his family moved to Sweden. They settled in a town called Örebro. They moved to escape the Lebanese Civil War, which was happening in their home country. They chose Sweden because some of their relatives already lived there. Fares learned to speak Swedish very quickly, in just three months!
From the age of 15, Fares started acting in a local theater group in Örebro. When he was 19, he went to a special drama school near Gothenburg, Sweden. He spent six years working with a theater group called Theatre Tamauer, learning and performing.
Acting Career
Fares Fares has had a busy career in both movies and television.
Movies
Fares has often worked with his brother, director Josef Fares. He made his acting debut in his brother's film Jalla! Jalla! in 2000. He also starred in Kopps (2003), Bang Bang Orangutang (2005), and Kill Your Darlings (2006).
In 2010, Fares was in the Swedish crime movie Easy Money. This film was very popular and helped him get noticed in Hollywood. In 2012, Fares made his big Hollywood debut in the movie Safe House, starring Denzel Washington. He also played a CIA officer named Hakim in Zero Dark Thirty. Later, he appeared in Child 44 (2014) and played Senator Vaspar in the Star Wars movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).
Fares even learned to speak Danish for his role in the 2013 film The Keeper of Lost Causes. This movie was set in Denmark. It was based on a book by Jussi Adler-Olsen. Fares and another actor, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, appeared in four films based on these popular books. The Keeper of Lost Causes was the most popular film in Denmark in 2013! The other films in the series were The Absent One (2014) and A Conspiracy of Faith (2016).
Television Shows
Fares has also been in many TV shows. In 2014, he played Fauzi Nadal in the TV series Tyrant. From 2018 to 2019, he appeared in two popular HBO series: Westworld and Chernobyl.
In 2021 and 2023, he played the character Ishamael in The Wheel of Time. More recently, in 2024, he was in the Netflix miniseries The Decameron, playing the role of Ruggiero.
Other Projects
Besides movies and TV, Fares has worked on other cool projects.
- He appeared in two music videos for the singer Lykke Li.
- He was in a music video for Daniel Lemma.
- In 2018, he played the voice and movements for the character Leo in the video game A Way Out.
- In 2021, he did extra voices for another video game called It Takes Two.
