Farida Khanum is a famous Pakistani classical singer. She is often called Malika-e-Ghazal, which means "The Queen of Ghazal". A ghazal is a type of poem that is sung, often about love or sadness. Farida Khanum is known as one of the best singers of ghazals in both Pakistan and India.

Early Life and Training
Farida Khanum was born in 1929 in Amritsar, which was part of British India at the time. Her family was Punjabi Muslim. She had a sister, Mukhtar Begum, who was also a famous singer, and three brothers.
When she was 18, her family moved from Amritsar to Lahore, Pakistan. Farida started learning classical music from a young age. She learned different styles like Khayal, Thumri, and Dadra from a teacher named Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan. Her sister Mukhtar Begum would often take her to practice sessions, called riyaaz, which are important for classical musicians.
Singing Career
Farida Khanum gave her first public concert in 1950 when she was 21 years old. After that, she joined Radio Pakistan, where she became very well-known. She became a big star in the 1960s after Pakistan's president, Ayub Khan, invited her to sing at a public event.
Farida Khanum also acted in movies and sang songs for them. She has often performed on Pakistan Television and other TV channels in Pakistan.
Her most famous ghazal is "Aaj Jaane Ki Zidd Naa Karo". This song was written by the poet Fayyaz Hashmi. In 2015, when she was 86, she sang this ghazal on Coke Studio, a popular music show.
Farida Khanum has also performed in other countries. Her concerts in India were very popular. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she visited Kabul, Afghanistan. There, she sang ghazals in the Persian language with Afghan musicians.

Farida Khanum lives in Lahore, Pakistan. She has five daughters and one son. Her niece, Sheeba Hassan, is an actress.
