Farista was once a small area in Huerfano County, Colorado. It was not officially part of any city or town. Today, Farista has become a part of Walsenburg, a nearby city. Even though it's now part of Walsenburg, mail sent to Farista still uses Walsenburg's ZIP Code 81089.
Farista Joins Walsenburg
The area you might see called Farista on maps or online is now part of the City of Walsenburg. This change happened in 2008. When a city takes over a nearby area, it's called "annexation."
Today, this area is known as the Northlands neighborhood of Walsenburg. Neither the city nor the county officially use the name Farista anymore. People who live there also call it Northlands.
How Farista Got Its Name
The name Farista comes from the Faris family. This family was from Lebanon and owned a lot of land in the area many years ago. They had a company called the Faris Land and Cattle Co.
Sometimes, people confuse Farista with another place called Farisita, Colorado. Farisita is also in Huerfano County, near a town called Gardner. It was named after the same Faris family.
