The Story of Farmfoods

How Farmfoods Started

Farmfoods began in 1954. It started as a business that prepared meat. In the 1970s, the first Farmfoods shop opened in Aberdeen. By the mid-1980s, the company had grown to about 20 stores.

In the 1990s, Farmfoods bought other frozen food companies. These included Capital Freezer Centres and Wallis Frozen Foods. By 2005, Farmfoods was one of the biggest private companies in Scotland.

Trying to Buy Iceland Stores

In 2011, Farmfoods tried to buy another supermarket chain called Iceland. They worked with Asda on this plan. If the deal had gone through, Farmfoods would have taken over 200 of Iceland's stores. However, the bid was not successful.

Growing and Updating Stores

In recent years, Farmfoods has been opening bigger stores. They are also closing some of their smaller shops. This is because they want to offer more than just food items.

Farmfoods has also taken over many old supermarket sites. These include former Aldi and Lidl stores. In 2023, Farmfoods started giving some of its stores a new, modern look inside.

In May 2024, Farmfoods announced big plans for growth. They aim to open 20 to 30 new stores each year. A main goal is to open more stores in the London area. By April 2024, Farmfoods had already found locations for 24 new stores across the country.

The main office for Farmfoods is in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. Some other office tasks are handled in Solihull and Yardley, which are near Birmingham.

How Discount Vouchers Work

Farmfoods does not have a loyalty card program. Instead, they offer discount vouchers to their customers. These vouchers can give you money off your shopping. For example, you might get £2.00 off if you spend £25.

You can get these weekly vouchers in a few ways. You can sign up for emails from Farmfoods. They also send out leaflets with the vouchers.
