Roland Morris "Fatty" Taylor (born March 13, 1946 – died December 7, 2017) was an American professional basketball player. He was a 6-foot-tall guard from Washington, D.C.. Taylor played college basketball at La Salle University.
He joined the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1969. He played for the Washington Capitals for one year. Then, he moved to the Virginia Squires.

Playing Career Highlights
Taylor spent the best part of his career with the Virginia Squires. He played there for five seasons. During this time, he scored 3,495 points. He also made 1,737 assists and got 1,715 rebounds.
A Strong Defensive Player
The ABA was known for fast-paced, high-scoring games. But Taylor became famous for his strong defense. He was one of the best defensive players in the league.
Teammates and Nicknames
While playing for the Squires, Taylor played with many future NBA stars. These included Adrian Smith and Julius "Doctor J" Erving. He also played with George Gervin for a season and a half. Taylor is known for giving Gervin his famous nickname, "The Iceman." He first called him "Iceberg Slim," which later changed to "The Iceman."
Moving to the NBA
Taylor played one season in the NBA. This was during the 1976–77 season. He played for the Denver Nuggets. He retired from basketball in 1977. His total career stats from both the ABA and NBA were 5,098 points, 2,563 assists, and 2,524 rebounds.
Later Life and Passing
In 2000, Roland Taylor was diagnosed with male breast cancer. He had surgery soon after his diagnosis. In 2011, the cancer returned in his lungs and bones. He received treatment for this.
Fatty Taylor passed away on December 7, 2017. He was 71 years old.
