The Federal University of Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées was a special group of colleges and research centers in France. Its French name is Université fédérale de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées. This group was located in the Midi-Pyrénées region, which is now called Occitania. On January 1, 2023, this big university group changed its name. It is now known as the University of Toulouse.

How the University Started

This large university system began on July 1, 2015. It was set up as a "ComUE". This is a French term for a group that brings together different universities and schools. The idea came from a law passed in 2013 about higher education in France.

Before 2015, there was a similar group called a "PRES". This older group started in 2007. Its job was to help different schools in the region work together. The new ComUE replaced this older system.

In 2021, an expert named Patrick Lévy looked at how the university system was working. He suggested some changes. Because of his ideas, the group changed how it operated in 2022. Then, on January 1, 2023, the Université fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées officially became the University of Toulouse.
