TBS Education is a well-known business school that started in 1903. It was first called Toulouse Business School and before that, Groupe ESC Toulouse. This school was created by the Toulouse Chamber of Commerce and Industry to help local businesses.
TBS Education is a special type of French school called a Grande école. These schools are very selective and offer advanced training in subjects like business and management. TBS Education offers different programs, from Bachelor's degrees (which you can get after about three years of college) to Master's degrees (after about five years). It even has a special program called the "Grande Ecole" Program.
The school is highly respected because it has "triple accreditation" from three important groups: EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. This means its programs meet very high international standards. TBS Education is also part of the Federal University of Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées and the Conférence des grandes écoles. It teaches business courses in English, French, and Spanish. Over 7,000 students attend each year across its campuses in Toulouse, Paris, Barcelona, and Casablanca. The school also focuses on research in new areas like Artificial Intelligence and aerospace.

How TBS Education Started
TBS Education has a long and interesting history. It began over 120 years ago to help businesses in the Toulouse area.
Early Years and Growth
In 1902, people in Toulouse decided to open a special school for business. The École Supérieure de Commerce de Toulouse was officially founded in 1903. The French Ministry of Education recognized it as an important higher education institution. The main goal was to train skilled business leaders for the local community.
In 1947, a special entrance exam was created. This exam was used by twelve top French business schools, making it a fair way to choose students. By 1982, the school started offering specialized Master's degrees. These were advanced programs for students who wanted to become experts in specific business fields.
Name Changes and New Campuses
The school's name changed over time to show its growth and international reach. In 2013, it became Toulouse Business School. Then, in 2021, it changed its name again to TBS Education. This new name better shows that it has campuses and students from many different countries.
Here are some key moments in TBS Education's history:
- 1903 - The school, then called École Supérieure de Commerce de Toulouse, was founded.
- 1947 - A common entrance exam for 12 French business schools was set up.
- 1982 - Master's degree programs for the Conférence des grandes écoles began.
- 1986 - The Toulouse campus moved to a new location called Compans-Caffarelli.
- 1995 - A campus opened in Barcelona, Spain, which is now called TBS Education - Barcelona.
- 2001 - The campus in Marrakech, Morocco, moved to Casablanca, becoming TBS Education - Casablanca.
- 2001-2003 - Toulouse Business School earned its important Triple accreditation from EQUIS, AMBA, and AACSB.
- 2006 - A special program for a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) was created with the University of Toulouse.
- 2012 - The TBSeeds incubator was started to help students and alumni create their own businesses.
- 2022 - The Barcelona campus moved to a new, modern area in the city.
What is a Grande École?
TBS Education is known as a Grande école. In France, these are special schools for higher education. They are separate from the main public university system but work closely with it. Think of them like the Ivy League schools in the United States or Oxbridge in the UK. They are very respected and hard to get into. Students usually have to pass a very tough exam to be accepted.
Why Grandes Écoles Are Special
Grandes Écoles often have smaller class sizes than public universities. Many of their programs are taught in English, which is great for international students. A big part of these schools is offering chances for students to do internships abroad or study in other countries. They also have strong connections with governments and big companies. This helps students find great jobs after they graduate.
TBS Education is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE). This group includes many of the top business schools in Europe. Out of about 250 business schools in France, only 39 are members of the CGE. This shows how special TBS Education is.
Degrees from TBS Education are recognized by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles. They are also approved by the French Ministry of Education. On top of that, TBS Education has the important Triple accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA. These accreditations mean the school meets very high international standards for business education.
How TBS Education Ranks
TBS Education is recognized as one of the top business schools in Europe. In 2023, the Financial Times newspaper ranked TBS Education as the 46th best European Business School. Its Master's in Management program was ranked 37th, and its Executive MBA program was ranked 62nd.
