Life Story of Felipe Rivero y Lemoine
Felipe Rivero y Lemoine was born in the city of La Plata. This city is now in Bolivia. His family was part of the nobility in Upper Peru. His father was Juan Francisco Rivera Vieyra, a lawyer from Buenos Aires. His mother was Bárbara Lemoine de Villavicencio. Her father was a maestre de campo, a military leader. Felipe's father was also a governor and a military officer.
In 1810, there were many uprisings for independence. Because of this, his family moved to the Puno region. Felipe and his brothers joined the Royal Army of Peru. In 1812, he became a cadet in the Ligero del Centro battalion. This was an infantry group where he spent his entire military career in Peru.
By 1824, he became a commander and chief of this battalion. He took over from Colonel Baldomero Espartero. Felipe led his group with bravery in the Battle of Ayacucho. This battle was a major event where the royalist forces were defeated.
After the royalist army lost Peru, Felipe traveled to Spain. He went with his former commander, Espartero. He stayed in Spain until 1828. Then, he returned to active military service. In 1831, he was promoted to colonel. Later, during the First Carlist War, he became a lieutenant general.

In 1838, he was made the General Commander of the Royal Infantry Guard. After that, he became the Captain General of several important regions. These included the eighth District, Aragon, Old Castile, and Andalusia. He was also chosen to be a senator, which is a member of the government's law-making body.
In 1862, he was appointed Governor and Captain General of the Province of Santo Domingo. This area had recently rejoined Spain. He held this important position until the next year.
When he returned to Spain, he became the President of the Supreme Court of War and Navy. He also served as President of the Supreme Council of War. He held this high position until he passed away on September 8, 1873.
Felipe Rivero y Lemoine received many important awards. These included the great crosses of Isabel la Católica, Carlos III, San Fernando, and San Hermenegildo.
