Economy and Work

The main work in Fene is connected to the sea. The Navantia Shipyards are very important here. Shipyards are places where ships are built and repaired. These shipyards are close to the city of Ferrol.

Famous Gantry Crane

In the 1960s, the shipyards in this area were very famous. They had a huge gantry crane. A gantry crane is a very large machine used to lift heavy things. The one at Astilleros y Talleres del Noroeste (ASTANO) was the biggest in Europe at that time! It helped build very large ships.
