Fereydoun Farrokhzad (Persian: فریدون فرخزاد; October 7, 1936 – August 7, 1992) was a famous Iranian TV host, poet, actor, and singer. He was also known for helping people and speaking out for what he believed in.
He became very popular because of his TV show, The Silver Carnation. This show helped many new artists become famous, like Ebi, Leila Forouhar, Shohreh, and Sattar.
After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Farrokhzad had to leave Iran. He moved to Germany. Sadly, he was later murdered in Germany. Many people believe the government of Iran was involved in his death.

Early Life and Amazing Career
Fereydoun Farrokhzad was born in Tehran, Iran. His father was a military officer. Fereydoun was one of seven children. His sister, Forugh Farrokhzad, was also a very famous poet.
After high school, Fereydoun went to Germany and Austria for college. He earned a special degree in political science from Munich University.
A Passion for Poetry and Music
From a young age, Fereydoun loved poetry and singing. He started writing poems in German in 1962. These poems were even printed in German newspapers! In 1964, he published his own book of poems called "Fasleh Deegar" (Another Season). This book was praised by many poets in Germany. Just five months later, he won the Poetry Award of Berlin.
For a few years, Fereydoun was part of the Munich Academy of Poetry. In 1966, he began working in television and radio in Munich. On the radio, he had a fun show with comedy and Middle Eastern music. On TV, he created a show called "Khiyaban-haye Alp" (Alpine Roads).
Becoming a TV Star in Iran
In 1967, Fereydoun returned to Iran. He quickly became a huge star with his radio and TV shows. His most popular TV show was "Mikhakeh Noghrei" (Silver Carnation), which means "Silver Carnation." Millions of Iranians watched it.
On "The Silver Carnation," Farrokhzad introduced and helped many Iranian artists. Some of these artists included Sattar, Shohreh, Ebi, and Leila Forouhar. He helped them become well-known singers and performers.
After the 1979 revolution in Iran, Farrokhzad was held for a short time. He was then released and managed to leave the country. He went back to Germany, where he had studied in his youth.
Speaking Out: Politics and Activism
Fereydoun Farrokhzad was known as a smart and patriotic person. He often spoke out against the government in Iran. He was present at many protests against the ruling government.

Fereydoun Farrokhzad was married twice. His first marriage was in 1962 to Ania Buchkowski, a German-Polish woman. They met in Oxford. Ania also loved poetry, and meeting her inspired Fereydoun to write more poems. They had a son named Rostam. Fereydoun and Ania later divorced.
In 1974, he married an Iranian woman named Taraneh. This marriage also ended in divorce. Besides his native language, Persian, Fereydoun also spoke German.
A Sad End: Farrokhzad's Death
On August 8, 1992, Fereydoun Farrokhzad's body was found in his apartment in Bonn, Germany. Just a few days before, on August 3, police had heard cries for help from his building but couldn't find where they came from.
Before he died, Farrokhzad was working on a radio program that was against the government. He had also received threats. His death is widely believed to be connected to his political activities.
Lasting Legacy
Fereydoun Farrokhzad is still a very important cultural figure in Iran. His popular music and TV shows are still enjoyed by many people today. He is remembered for his talent, his humor, and his courage in speaking his mind.
