Ebrahim Hamedi (Persian: ابراهیم حامدی, romanized: Ebrāhim Hāmedi), born in 1949, is a very famous Iranian pop singer. Most people know him by his stage name, Ebi (ابی). He started his music journey in Tehran and Karaj, first as part of a band, and then as a solo artist. In 1977, he moved to Los Angeles, USA, and has continued his music career from there. Over more than 50 years, Ebi has released almost 200 single songs and over 30 albums!

Ebi: The Voice of a Generation
Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Ebi was born in Khorramdareh and is the oldest of six children. His father was from Arak and his mother was from Karaj.
When he was younger, Ebi loved to sing for his family, friends, and neighbors. He even used to recite holy verses from the Quran at school when he was in primary school.
A Career Spanning Decades
Early Bands and Solo Start
Ebi was inspired by famous groups like The Beatles. In the mid-1960s, he started a band called "the Rebels" with Shahram Shabpareh and Siavash Ghomayshi. He also sang with other bands like "Sunboys" and "Black Cats" before he decided to become a solo singer.
In 1977, Ebi left Iran to go on a music tour in the United States. He stayed there after a big change in Iran's government happened in 1979.
Famous Songs and Collaborations
In 1990, Ebi released an album called Noon O Panir O Sabzi with another popular singer, Dariush. They even performed a concert together at the Universal Amphitheatre.
One of Ebi's most famous songs is Khalij-e Hamishegi-ye Fars, which means "Persian Gulf forever." The album Khalij was named after this important song. Ebi has said that he is very proud of singing this song.
In 1995, Ebi released the album Setarehaye Sorbi. Two songs from this album, Kee Ashkato Pak Mikoneh and Setarehaye Sorbi, were chosen by fans as the top two songs in a TV show.
Music with a Message
Ebi has also sung songs that talk about important issues. For example, his song Hala (1999) was written by the Iranian poet Mina Assadi. Ebi called this his most important song about social topics in a 2013 interview.
In 2009, Ebi sang the song "Tasmim" (Decision). This song was a response to the 2009 election in Iran.
Recent Projects and Tours
Ebi has worked with many other artists. He collaborated with Shadmehr Aghili on several songs and they even went on a world tour together called "Royaye Ma" in 2012.
In 2014, Ebi released the song Nostalgia with Googoosh, another famous Iranian singer. They then started a joint world concert tour also called "Nostalgia."
He released the album Jan-e Javani in 2014 and toured the world for it. His most recent album, Lalehzaar, came out in 2019. This album included the song Koocheye Nastaran, which is about the Iran–Iraq War.
In 2020, Ebi appeared as a judge on Persia's Got Talent, a popular TV show.
Ebi has also spoken out about important events in Iran, like supporting protests for people's rights.
He started his new world tour called "The Love Project" in 2022. This tour had been delayed because of COVID-19.
Personal Life
Ebi has three daughters from his first marriage. He now lives in Marbella, Spain, and Los Angeles with his second wife, Mahshid Hamedi Boromand. He also has a stepson. In the early 2000s, he lived in Sweden for a while.
