Fernando Martín Zavala Lombardi is a politician from Peru. He was the Prime Minister of Peru from July 2016 to September 2017. Before that, he was the President of Backus and Johnston, a large company that makes drinks. He also served as the Minister of Economy and Finance from 2005 to 2006.

Fernando Zavala's Early Life and Education
Fernando Zavala was born in Tacna, Peru, in 1971. He finished high school at Colegio de la Inmaculada, a Jesuit school, in 1987.
After high school, he went to the University of the Pacific. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1993. Later, he earned two Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees. One was from the University of Piura and the other from the University of Birmingham.
Starting His Career
Zavala began his career working in private companies. He was an assistant manager at Samtronics Peru. He also worked as a Chief Financial Officer at Apoyo S.A., which is now Ipsos Perú S.A. In these roles, he helped manage money and gather information.
In 1995, Zavala became the CEO of Peru's National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI). This agency helps make sure businesses compete fairly and protects new ideas. He held this job until 2000. After that, he started working as a consultant for the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Political Career
In April 2002, Fernando Zavala was named Deputy Minister of Economy. This was part of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which was led by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at the time. Zavala served in this role until August 2005.
Later, President Alejandro Toledo changed his group of ministers. Kuczynski became the Prime Minister of Peru. In this change, Zavala took over Kuczynski's old job as the Minister of Economy and Finance. He held this position until July 2006, when President Toledo's term ended.
After leaving the government, Zavala went back to working in private companies. He joined Backus and Johnston as Vice President of Strategy. After three years, he became the president of National Brewery – SABMiller Panamá. In November 2013, he returned to Peru to become the president of Backus and Johnston.
Prime Minister of Peru
On July 15, 2016, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who was about to become president, announced that Fernando Zavala would lead his group of ministers. This role is known as the Prime Minister.
On July 28, 2016, Zavala officially took his oath of office. The ceremony happened at the Government Palace. He served as Prime Minister until September 17, 2017. His time in office ended after his group of ministers faced a "vote of no confidence." This means that the country's lawmakers voted that they no longer supported his cabinet.
On June 23, 2017, while still Prime Minister, Fernando Zavala also became the Minister of Economy and Finance. He took over this role from Alfredo Thorne.
