History of Fifty-Six
How Fifty-Six Got Its Name
The town was founded in 1918. The people living there wanted to name their new community "Newcomb." However, the government did not approve this name. Instead, the federal government decided to name the town after its school district number, which was 56.
Because of its unique name, Fifty-Six is often mentioned on lists of unusual place names in the world.
