Early Races: 2011-2015
Filip started showing his talent early on. In 2011, he finished fifth in the 800 meters at the Norwegian Championship. He also won a gold medal with his team in the junior relay race. He earned silver in a short cross-country race that year too.
In 2012, Filip won gold in the 1500 meters at the junior Norwegian Championship. He also placed third in the 800 meters at the main Norwegian Athletics Championships. The next year, 2013, he won the 1500 meters at the Norwegian Championship. He also helped his team win gold in a relay race.
In 2014, Filip competed at the European Championships but did not reach the final. He still won two medals at the Norwegian Championship that year. In 2015, he earned a silver medal in the 1500 meters at the European Athletics Championships.
Becoming a European Champion: 2016
The year 2016 was a big one for Filip. He won the gold medal in the 1500 metres at the 2016 European Athletics Championships. His older brother Henrik also won a bronze medal in the same race. This was a special moment for the Ingebrigtsen family.
After his European win, Filip ran even faster. He set a new personal best in the 1500 meters at a Diamond League event. Later that year, he represented Norway at the Rio Olympics. However, he was disqualified during his 1500 meters race.
World Championship Medal: 2017
In 2017, Filip continued his success on the world stage. He won a bronze medal in the 1500 metres at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London. This showed he was one of the best runners in the world.
Setting Records: 2018
Filip set a new Norwegian record in the 1500 metres in 2018. He ran an amazing time of 3:30.01 at a Diamond League event in Monaco. This was the fastest time in Europe that year.
Later in 2018, Filip faced a challenge at the European Championship in Berlin. He fell during his semi-final race and broke a rib. Even with the injury, he managed to finish the race and qualify for the final. His injury affected his performance in the final. He also had to miss the 5000 meters final. His younger brother Jakob won gold in both races, and Henrik won silver in the 5000 meters.
Ups and Downs: 2019
The 2019 season had some challenging moments for Filip. At the European Indoor Championships, he was disqualified from his 1500 meters race. This happened because he ran off the track. His brother Jakob called it "the stupidest thing I'll see all year."
A few months later, at the World Athletics Championships, Filip was involved in an incident. He appeared to push another runner, but he was not disqualified. He was able to move on to the semi-finals.
New Personal Bests: 2020
