Firoza Begum (Bengali: ফিরোজা বেগম; born July 28, 1930 – died September 9, 2014) was a famous singer from Bangladesh. She was especially known for singing Nazrul Geeti, which are songs written by the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Firoza Begum was given the Independence Day Award in 1979. This is one of the highest awards in Bangladesh. She was a true legend in the music world.

Early Life and Music Career
Firoza Begum was born on July 28, 1930, in Gopalganj District, Bangladesh. Her family was a well-known zamindar family. A zamindar was like a landlord who owned a lot of land. Her parents were Mohammad Ismail and Begum Kowkabunnesa.
From a very young age, Firoza loved music. She started her singing career in the 1940s. When she was just 10 years old, she met the great poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. She became his student, learning directly from him.
Firoza Begum first sang on All India Radio when she was in sixth grade. In 1942, she recorded her first song. It was an Islamic song released by the HMV record company. She released many records throughout her life. These included 12 LP albums, 4 EP albums, 6 CDs, and over 20 audio cassettes. She lived in Kolkata from 1954. Later, she moved to Dhaka in 1967.
Family Life
In 1956, Firoza Begum married Kamal Dasgupta. He was also a very talented singer, composer, and lyricist. Kamal Dasgupta passed away on July 20, 1974.
Firoza Begum and Kamal Dasgupta had three sons. Two of their sons, Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed, also became musicians. They are members of the popular rock band Miles.
Later Years and Passing
Firoza Begum continued to share her beautiful music for many years. She passed away on September 9, 2014. She died in Apollo Hospital in Dhaka due to heart and kidney problems. Her music continues to inspire many people.

On July 28, 2018, Google honored Firoza Begum on her 88th birthday. They created a special Google Doodle for her. This showed how important she was around the world.
