About Fito Blanko
Fito Blanko grew up combining his Panamanian dancehall music roots with a North American twist. He started writing songs in English and Spanish when he was just 14 years old, after moving from Panama to Canada.
Early Music Journey
Fito began his music career in the early 2000s as a teenager. He quickly became known in the Latin pop and urban music scene. One cool fact is that he even had songs with famous Canadian artist Drake in 2009! Many people in the music industry see Fito Blanko as one of the most exciting talents in Latin crossover music.
Breaking into the Charts
In 2011, Fito Blanko released a song called "VIP" with Fuego. This song became popular and appeared on three different U.S. Latin Billboard charts, which track the most popular songs. He became known for his exciting live shows.
In 2012, Fito was featured on the front page of The Toronto Star newspaper as one of the "People To Watch." His song "Pegaito Suavecito" became a big hit, topping radio charts in South Florida. Later that year, a new version of "Pegaito Suavecito" with music legend Elvis Crespo became Fito's first number one hit on the Latin Billboard charts in November 2012.
Big Achievements and Awards
In 2013, Fito Blanko performed his hit song "Pegaito Suavecito" with Elvis Crespo at the Premios Lo Nuestro awards, a big Latin music show. During the week of the 2013 Billboard awards, Fito had four songs in the Top 40 at the same time! This made him the first Canadian Latino artist to achieve such a feat. His songs "Mi Princesa," "Esta Fiesta Remix," "Pegaito Suavecito," and "Si Te Agarro" all appeared on different Billboard charts.
He was also nominated for "Song of the Summer" at Premios Juventud (Latin Teenage Choice Awards) and "Best Party Song" at Premios Tu Mundo (Latin World Awards). Fito was even nominated for "Best Urban Performance" at the Latin Grammy Awards and received a platinum award for "Pegaito Suavecito" in the U.S.
Movie Soundtracks and Global Stage
In 2015, Fito Blanko's song "Meneo" was featured in the movie Furious 7, which was a huge hit at the box office. The movie's soundtrack also went to number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
That same year, Fito was named a Cultural Ambassador for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. His song "Come Alive" was played during the opening and closing ceremonies, which also featured performances by Pitbull and Kanye West. He received an award from SOCAN (Society Of Composers Authors Music Publishers Canada) and was later inducted into the Mississauga Canadian Music Walk of Fame in 2017.
In 2018, Fito participated in the official Swiss FIFA Russia 2018 World Cup anthem, "OLE OLE," with DJ Antoine. The song was heard in stadiums and broadcast worldwide during Swiss games.
Recent Successes
Fito started 2019 with two songs in the Billboard Top 10. "La Gringa" reached number 6 on the U.S. Billboard Dance charts. He also co-produced and co-wrote "Ella Me Beso" for Elvis Crespo, which hit number 4 on the Tropical Billboard Charts.
He also worked with Czech artist Mikolas Josef on the European hit "Acapella," which reached number one on iTunes in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. By 2020, his song "Meneo" became popular again through TikTok and Instagram Music, getting over 500,000 streams in April 2020 alone and reaching number 3 on the Japanese iTunes charts.
Fito Blanko has also produced and remixed songs for many famous artists like Pitbull, J Balvin, Enrique Iglesias, and Shakira. His work has made a big impact on Canadian Latin music.
