Flávia Lopes Saraiva (born September 30, 1999) is a talented artistic gymnast from Brazil. She has represented her country in many big competitions. These include the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing and the Summer Olympics in Rio (2016), Tokyo (2020), and Paris (2024).

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Flávia helped the Brazilian team win a bronze medal. This was a historic moment for Brazil in gymnastics! She also helped her team win silver at the 2023 World Championships. Flávia won gold with her team at the 2018 South American Games. She also earned team bronze medals at the 2015 and 2019 Pan American Games.

Individually, Flávia is a champion on the floor exercise from the 2014 Youth Olympics. She also won a bronze medal on floor exercise at the 2023 World Championships. Flávia has won many medals at the Pan American Games, South American Games, and Pan American Championships.

Junior Career Highlights

2013: Starting Strong

Flávia Saraiva began her international gymnastics journey in 2013. Her first big competition was the Houston National Invitational. She finished 10th in the all-around.

In August, she competed at the Junior South American Championships in Colombia. Her team, Brazil, won first place. Flávia also won gold in the all-around (tied with another gymnast) and on the balance beam. She earned a silver medal on the floor exercise.

Later that year, Flávia competed at the 2013 Gymnasiade in her home country. Her team won silver. She also won gold medals on both the floor exercise and balance beam.

2014: Youth Olympic Success

Flávia started 2014 at the WOGA Classic in Texas. She won first place on the balance beam. She also helped her team get second place.

In March, she competed at the Junior Pan American Championships. This event helped gymnasts qualify for the Youth Olympic Games. Flávia did amazing, winning first in the all-around and on floor. She also got second with her team and third on bars and beam.

2015: Senior Debut

Flávia made her first appearance as a senior gymnast at the FIG World Challenge Cup in São Paulo. She won the gold medal on the floor exercise. She also earned a silver medal on the balance beam.

At the Pan American Games, Flávia won a bronze medal in the all-around competition. Her team also won a bronze medal.

2016: First Olympics in Rio

Flávia represented Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Her team qualified for the team finals in 5th place. Flávia also qualified for the individual all-around and balance beam finals.

In the team final, Brazil finished in 8th place. Flávia focused on the balance beam final. She finished in 5th place, which was a great achievement.

2017: Injuries and Comebacks

In 2017, Flávia competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy. Her team finished second. Individually, she placed fifth in the all-around. She also won second on balance beam and tied for first on floor exercise.

She later competed at the Koper Challenge Cup. She placed third on uneven bars. She had to stop her floor routine due to an injury. The next week, she won silver on floor and bronze on balance beam at the Osijek Challenge Cup. In August, Flávia had a spinal injury and could not compete for the rest of the year.

2018: South American and World Medals

In April, Flávia helped Brazil win a silver medal at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She also won silver on floor exercise.

The next month, she competed at the 2018 South American Games. Her team won gold. Flávia also won silver in the all-around. She earned gold medals on uneven bars and balance beam.

In August, Flávia competed at the 2018 Pan American Championships. She won a silver medal with the Brazilian team. She also won silver medals on floor exercise and balance beam, and a bronze in the all-around.

Flávia was chosen for the team to compete at the 2018 World Championships in Qatar. She qualified for the all-around and floor finals. The Brazilian team finished 7th. Flávia finished 8th in the all-around and 5th on floor.

She ended the year by winning gold on floor exercise and silver on balance beam at the Cottbus World Cup.

2019: Olympic Qualification

Flávia started 2019 at the DTB Team Challenge in Germany, where Brazil won gold. She placed fourth in the all-around. At the Brazilian Championships, she won silver in the all-around and on uneven bars, and gold on balance beam.

In July, Flávia was part of the team for the Pan American Games. The team won a bronze medal. Flávia also won individual bronze medals in the all-around and on floor exercise.

In October, Flávia competed at the 2019 World Championships. Brazil's team did not qualify for the 2020 Olympics. However, Flávia qualified as an individual for the Tokyo Olympics. She finished seventh in the all-around final. She also placed sixth on balance beam and fourth on floor exercise in the event finals.

2020: Training During the Pandemic

In July 2020, Flávia and other Brazilian Olympic hopefuls traveled to Portugal. This was because they could not train in Brazil due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021: Tokyo Olympics and Injury

At the 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021), Flávia injured her ankle during qualifications. She still managed to compete on floor and balance beam. Despite her injury, she qualified for the balance beam final and finished in 7th place.

2022: Pan American Champion

In July, Flávia was part of the team for the 2022 Pan American Championships. Her team won gold. Flávia also won gold in the all-around and on balance beam. She earned a silver medal on floor exercise.

At the World Championships, Flávia injured her ankle again during qualifications. She still qualified for the all-around and floor finals. However, due to her injury, she had to withdraw from all individual finals. Her team finished fourth.

2023: World and Pan American Medals

In September, Flávia won a bronze medal on the balance beam at the Paris World Challenge Cup.

She then competed at the World Championships. Her team won a silver medal, which was Brazil's first team medal ever at a World Championship! Individually, Flávia finished fifteenth in the all-around. She also won a bronze medal in the floor final.

After the World Championships, Flávia competed at the Pan American Games. The Brazilian team won silver again. Flávia also won individual silver medals in the all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise. She earned a bronze medal on the uneven bars.

2024: Historic Olympic Bronze

Flávia started 2024 by winning silver on balance beam at the Antalya World Challenge Cup. She then competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy, where Brazil finished second as a team. Flávia won gold on balance beam and floor exercise.

Flávia was chosen to represent Brazil at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. At the Olympic Games, she helped Brazil qualify for the team final in fourth place. She also qualified for the individual all-around final.

While warming up for the team final, Flávia had a fall on the uneven bars. She hit her knee and eye. Even with her eye bandaged and bruised, Flávia competed on all four events. She helped Brazil win the bronze medal, which was Brazil's first ever Olympic team medal in gymnastics! In the all-around final, she placed ninth.
