Fläsch is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Landquart Region of Switzerland. It's part of the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

History of Fläsch

Fläsch is a very old place! It was first mentioned in official records way back in the year 831. Back then, it was called Villa Flasce. A famous painter named Anna Barbara Bansi was born in Fläsch.

In 1949, a mountain called Ellhorn, which used to belong to the nearby country of Liechtenstein, became part of Switzerland and joined Fläsch.

Geography of Fläsch

Fläsch covers an area of about 20 square kilometers (that's about 7.7 square miles). A big part of this land, about 35%, is used for farming. Even more, about 44%, is covered by forests. Only a small bit, about 2%, has buildings or roads. The rest of the land is made up of things like rivers or mountains.

Fläsch is the most northern town in the canton of Graubünden. It sits at the bottom of the Fläscherberg and St. Luzisteig mountains.

People and Population

Fläsch has a population of about 831 people. In recent years, the number of people living here has grown by about 9%.

The population is pretty evenly split between males and females. There's a good mix of ages, from young children and teenagers to adults and seniors.

Most people in Fläsch speak German. A small number of people also speak Portuguese or Romansh. Long ago, people in this area spoke Romansh, but by the 1300s, German speakers moved in and German became the main language.

Education and Jobs

Many adults in Fläsch (about 83.5%) have finished high school or gone on to higher education like university. This means people in Fläsch are generally well-educated.

The town has a very low unemployment rate, meaning most people who want to work can find jobs. Many jobs in Fläsch are in farming. There are also some jobs in manufacturing and in the service industry, like shops or restaurants.

Important Historical Sites

Fläsch is home to some important historical places that are protected as Swiss heritage sites. These include the Festung Luziensteig (a fortress), the Kleine Schanze fortifications, and the Letzi Grafenberg watch tower. These sites tell us a lot about the history of the area.
