Fladda is a small, flat island located in Scotland. It is the most northern island in a group called the Treshnish Isles. The name "Fladda" comes from the Old Norse words Flat-ey, which mean "flat island." This name perfectly describes the island's shape! Fladda is currently owned by an organization called the Hebridean Trust.

Discovering Fladda's Past

Experts have studied Fladda to learn about its history. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland has records about the island. They found signs of an old building and some mounds. These might be the remains of a very early Christian chapel and a burial ground. What they found on Fladda is similar to discoveries made on another Scottish island called Colonsay.

Fladda in Books and Research

Fladda is mentioned in a book called Island Years by Frank Fraser Darling. He was a researcher who lived on a nearby island, Lunga, with his family. While there, he studied the local wildlife and environment.

Darling wrote that Fladda was used as a summer home by the Robertson family. This family had been fishing for lobsters around the Treshnish Isles for many years. They had been doing this for three generations!
