History of Mining in Flux

The area around Flux is very rich in certain types of rocks. These rocks include dolomite, limestone, and quartzite. Because of these natural resources, mining became an important activity in Flux.

Early Mining Operations

People started mining limerock in Flux as early as 1918. Limerock is a type of limestone used in many industries. It was a valuable resource for the region.

The Role of Railroads

To help transport the mined limerock, a special rail line was built. This line was operated by a company called Tintic Southern. It connected to the main Union Pacific Railroad line, which was located near where Interstate 80 is today. This rail connection made it easier to move the mined materials to other places.

Modern Mining Activity

Even in the early 2000s, mining continued in Flux. A company called Ophir Mining, based in Tooele City, was still working at the site. This shows that the area's natural resources remained important for many years.
