Career Highlights
Early Years (1999-2001)
Fly to the Sky was formed in late 1998 by a Korean music company called SM Entertainment. Brian Joo joined after a friend signed him up for auditions. He was going to high school in New Jersey, USA, at the time. Fany was recommended to audition by a company staff member after a school festival.
The duo first appeared on TV on December 9, 1999. Their first album, Day by Day, was very successful. It sold over 250,000 copies.
Their second album, The Promise, came out in 2001. It reached #2 on the music charts. In the same year, they held their first concert with singer Kim Jo-Han.
New Sound and Challenges (2002-2004)
Fly to the Sky released two albums during this time. Their third album, Sea of Love, came out in 2002. Brian Joo was studying in New Jersey, so Fany performed many songs by himself. This album included a song called "Condition of My Heart," written by American singer Brian McKnight.
Their fourth album, Missing You, was released in 2003. This was a difficult time for Fany, as his manager passed away in a car accident. Fany had been in the same car just hours before.
Gravity was their fifth album, released in 2004. This was their last album with SM Entertainment. Their contract with the company ended soon after.
New Beginnings (2004-Present)
After leaving SM Entertainment, Fly to the Sky joined PFull Entertainment in 2004. They wanted a smaller company that focused more on music. They recorded their sixth album, Transition, in January 2006.
The duo then started their first tour in Korea. It was called "Fly To The Sky: 2006 The Twice Tour." The tour began in Seoul in May 2006. They also performed in other big Korean cities like Busan and Daegu.
Because Transition was so popular, Fly to the Sky released a special edition. This version included more music videos and extra songs.
Around 2004 and 2005, there were rumors that the duo might break up. Brian Joo explained on a TV show that they had some tough times early in their career. He felt that Fany sometimes received more attention. This made Brian feel a bit sad. They had a serious talk about their feelings. After this, they decided to work harder to understand each other. They learned to support each other better. Brian shared that this helped them become stronger as a team.
Since 2006, both members have appeared on many TV shows. Fany acted in the Korean TV drama "Over the Rainbow" in the summer of 2006. Brian released his solo album, The Brian, in December 2006. Their popularity grew even more.
