The Foglia is a river in Italy. It's the most northern river in the Marche region.
Long ago, people called it Pisaurus. This was because it flowed into the Adriatic Sea near a town called Pisaurum, which is now Pesaro. This town was an important place for trading back then. The river was also known as the Isaurus, and you can still see this name in places like Belforte all'Isauro.

Exploring the Foglia River
The Foglia river is about 90 kilometers (56 miles) long. A small part of its journey, about 11 kilometers (7 miles), is in the region of Tuscany.
Where the Foglia River Starts
The Foglia river begins in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany. Its sources are found near a hill called Sasso Aguzzo. This hill is located between the towns, known as comuni, of Sestino and Badia Tedalda. The river starts at a high point, about 980 meters (3,215 feet) above sea level.
The River's Journey to the Sea
From its start, the Foglia river flows east. It passes through several towns, including Sestino, Piandimeleto, and Lunano.
As it reaches Sassocorvaro, the river forms an artificial lake called Lake of Mercatale. This lake was created by a dam. The river then continues through towns like Auditore, Montecalvo in Foglia, Vallefoglia, and Montelabbate. Finally, it reaches Pesaro before flowing into the Adriatic Sea.
Two towns even have the river's name in their own names: Montecalvo in Foglia and Vallefoglia. This shows how important the river is to these areas. The Foglia river only has small streams joining it along its path. These small streams are called tributaries.
