Forest Lawn and a nearby place called Albert Park became villages on July 4, 1934. A village is a small, organized community. Just over a year later, on August 1, 1935, Forest Lawn and Albert Park joined together. They became one larger village called the Village of Forest Lawn.
On December 29, 1952, Forest Lawn officially became a town. A town is usually larger than a village. In 1958, the town tried to become a city, but it didn't happen.
Forest Lawn was later joined with the City of Calgary on December 30, 1961. This process is called annexation. Parts of other rural areas also became part of Calgary at that time.
