Forestport is a small town located in Oneida County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,477 people lived there. It's special because the northern part of the town is inside the beautiful Adirondack Park, a huge protected area.

Forestport's History
The town of Forestport was officially created in 1869. It was formed from a part of the Town of Remsen.
In the late 1800s, something interesting happened here. Many people in Forestport were involved in a plan to get money meant for fixing the Black River Canal. Parts of the canal were damaged on purpose so that people could get paid to repair them. This event became known as the "Forestport Breaks."
Where is Forestport?
Forestport covers an area of about 79 square miles (204 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
The town is located in the northeastern corner of Oneida County. Its eastern border touches Herkimer County. The northern border is shared with Lewis County. The Black River and Kayuta Lake form the western edge of the town.
Who Lives in Forestport?
The population of Forestport has changed over the years. In 1870, about 1,275 people lived here. The population grew to 1,692 people by the year 2000. By 2020, the number of residents was 1,477.
Most people living in Forestport are White. The town is made up of many different kinds of households. Some have children, while others are single people or older adults living alone. The average age of people in Forestport is around 43 years old.

- Anos Siding – This is a small area in the northeastern part of the town.
- Forestport – This is the main village, or hamlet, of Forestport. You can find it along the Black River, near NY 28.
- Forestport Reservoir – A large body of water located close to the hamlet of Forestport.
- Forestport Station – Another small community located to the east of Forestport.
- Holiday House – You can find this spot on NY 28, north of Woodgate.
- Long Lake – This is a lake in the northeastern part of the town, just north of Woodgate.
- Meyers Hill – A raised area or hill located northeast of Woodhull.
- Nichols Mills – Another location in the northeastern part of the town.
- Otter Lake – This is both a hamlet and a lake. It's in the northeastern corner of the town, also on NY 28.
- Round Lake – A lake located southeast of Long Lake.
- White Lake – This is both a lake and a hamlet. It's south of Long Lake and next to Route 28.
- Woodgate – This community is about seven miles north of the main Forestport hamlet, along SR 28.
- Woodhull – A hamlet located southwest of Forestport.
