Fort Morgan, also called Fort Bowyer, is a small community in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. It is located on a narrow strip of land called Mobile Point. This land stretches west from Gulf Shores all the way to the historic Fort Morgan at the very end of the peninsula.
History of Fort Morgan
In 1880, only 38 people lived in Fort Morgan. A post office served the community from 1892 to 1924.
Some people living in Fort Morgan have wanted their community to become an official town. This would allow them to make their own rules. They even went to court against Gulf Shores about this. In 2016, a plan to make Fort Morgan an official town was discussed by Alabama lawmakers, but it did not pass.
The Fort Morgan Civic Association, a local group, said that becoming a town would help them protect their area. They wanted to stop too much building near the water. This was especially important after Alabama spent $1.8 million to fix up a beach house there.
