Fosterville is a small, quiet place in Anderson County, Texas. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it is not officially a town or city with its own local government. It is part of the larger Palestine, Texas area.
The Story of Fosterville
Fosterville started a long time ago, even before 1870. That is when it got its first post office. The post office stayed open until 1907.
In 1884, about 70 people lived in Fosterville. The community had several churches, including Baptist and Christian ones. There were also four blacksmith shops. These shops made and repaired things out of metal.
Fosterville also had two water-powered cotton gins and sawmills. Cotton gins separated cotton fibers from seeds. Sawmills cut logs into lumber. There were even two doctors and a general store.
By 1890, the number of people living there went down to about 40. Six years later, it grew a little to 50 residents. In the 1930s, Fosterville still had a sawmill and many homes.
Even though Fosterville was not shown on a county map in 1985, it still had one business. In 2000, a cemetery was found in the community.
